Bonus Pai Gow Poker is an interesting game of luck and strategy. The essential element of this online poker game is splitting your seven cards into two separate poker hands. There is also a bonus bet, which looks at all seven cards at once and can pay off in big jackpots.
How to Play Pai Gow Poker
Online Bonus Pai Gow Poker is played with a standard deck of playing cards, including one Joker. The Joker is a limited wild card: It can be used to complete a straight or a flush, otherwise it is counted as an Ace.
At the beginning of the game, after you place your bet and click the Deal button, you receive seven cards face-up and the dealer receives seven cards face-down. Then you must create two poker hands from your seven cards. Your “High” hand has five cards and your “Low” hand has two cards. The computer will be happy to do this for you if you click the House Way button, or you can do it yourself by clicking on the two cards that go into your low hand. An important Pai Gow Poker rule is that your low hand cannot be higher than your high hand. For example, you cannot have a pair of tens as your high hand and a pair of queens as your low hand.
When you are ready, click the Play button. The dealer’s cards are turned over and are also divided into two hands. If your high hand and low hand beat the dealer’s high hand and low hand, respectively, you win the Pai Gow Poker game. If one of your hands beats the dealer’s corresponding hand, and the other loses, the whole online Pai Gow Poker game is considered a tie.
Pai Gow Poker Strategy
It might sound a little complicated, but once you play a few practice games you’ll be surprised at how easy and fun it really is. What makes playing online Pai Gow Poker interesting is the mix of luck and strategy involved. The deal of the cards, of course, is strictly a question of luck. But how you divide your cards into two poker hands is a question of Pai Gow Poker strategy.
A Note on Pai Gow Poker Terminology
Officially, the names of the two Pai Gow Poker hands are “Highest Hand” and “2nd Highest Hand.” This is certainly a more optimistic way of looking at it. Your two-card hand is not necassarily “low,” it is just “not quite as high” as your five-card hand. (If one hand has three of a kind, and your other hand has a pair of kings, you certainly wouldn’t consider a pair of kings a “low” hand.) Nevertheless, we often use the terms “High Hand” and “Low Hand” for the sake of convenience and simplicity. Just remember: “Highest Hand” and “High Hand” are the same thing, and “2nd Highest Hand” and “Low Hand” are the same. Don’t get tripped up or confused by the terminology.
The Bonus Bet in Bonus Pai Gow Poker
The reason they call this online casino game “Bonus” Pai Gow Poker is that it features an optional Bonus Bet for bigger payouts. The first thing to understand about the Bonus Bet is that it is not played against the dealer. It is just you individually trying to get a winning poker hand. The second important thing is that it is your entire seven-card hand that counts. There is no split into Highest hand and 2nd Highest hand, as far as the bonus bet is concerned.
The bonus bet pays 2-to-1 for a five-card straight, 3-to-1 for three of a kind, and even more for better poker hands such as a flush or a full house. The best payout is 8,000-to-1 for a seven-card straight flush.
