Food doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, it can be quite fun. But there are some food trends that lack good taste, or just don’t taste good. We’ve rounded up the 10 most epic food fails that simply didn’t whet the appetite!
#1 – The Sushi Burger
Let’s be honest, no one really asked for this. We love sushi, but not so much on a sticky rice bun with a burger slapped in the middle. It defies the entire purpose of sushi and certainly didn’t have anyone drooling for more. Too much rice, not anyone’s idea of a fun night out. What’s more, it’s a tower of pure mess just waiting to collapse mid-bite
#2 – Coffee In A Cone
Coffee in a cone was a wonderful idea on most counts. But sadly, not a thought was spared for the practical implication of what would happen just as soon as the chocolate had melted enough to let the coffee run free into the cone. These cones were hugely impractical, and although they sound like a good way to enjoy coffee and chocolate at the same time when walking on the beach, playing online casino games, or simply lazing around, they lacked something very important. The ability to enjoy them without getting messy!
#3 – Charcoal Ice Cream
The problem here is the fact that no one really knows what charcoal is supposed to taste like, and more importantly, why they would want to put it in their mouths. This idea was without a doubt a spin-off off the old black is back idea, but it didn’t exactly take off to the extent that fashion loving foodies were hoping for. In fact, it’s a display of culinary mediocrity, tasting faintly of vanilla and leaving teeth, fingers and lips stained in a hideous hue.
#4 – Rainbow Bagels
Rainbow bagels may be pretty, yes. In fact, they are very, very pretty and will have anyone who is anyone swooning over your Instagram profile. And yet, this idea did not quite take off to the extent that the creators of the idea were hoping for. Evidently, when talking pastries, we want it classic, not styled like a unicorns mane.
#5 – Fancy Lattes
How on earth can a fancy latte be deemed a food fail, you might ask? Well, when considering the fact that these have been created in flavours ranging from turmeric to beetroot to blue algae, it becomes quite self-explanatory. Need we really say more?
#6 – Glazed Doughnut Breakfast Sandwich
Sweet doughnuts have stuck around for ages for good reason. Jam-packing these delicious sweet treats with breakfast attire like egg, bacon and cheese, was never going to be anyone’s idea of a good time, let alone a good idea for a doughnut.
#7 – Galaxy Food
First, it was rainbow food. Then, when we were sufficiently sick of all the colours on our plates – often going hand in hand with unicorn fever, the foodies gave us galaxy food, a boring, bluer alternative. We’re sure that this was supposed to be a stellar affair, but, no.
#8 – Edible Foam
Edible foam is a grand old idea, with the emphasis on old. This force of nature has been making an appearance in our frothy coffee cups and beer mugs for eons, and more recently, it tried to make its way onto our dinner plates. The problem is, it doesn’t actually do anything. Also, it hasn’t much of a consistency and can turn into a watery mess, fast.
#9 – Cheese Tea
The million-dollar question here is, But why? Cheese tea is obviously one of those ideas that someone came up with just to be different. The queen of England would not approve of this, and neither do we. Let’s not mess around with a good idea.
#10 – Sushi Burrito
We love sushi, and we love burritos, but the fact is, they’re better on their own than when combined. The problem here seems to be psychological one. Burritos are traditionally filled with spicy Mexican flavours. Not something the mind wants to associate with say, sashimi!
