Double Attack Blackjack |
A lot has been written about the many types of blackjack that can be found in land-based and online casinos. Bonus Blackjack, Double Exposure Blackjack, and Super Fun 21 Blackjack are a few of the new blackjack games that come to mind. Sometimes, a variation can spawn a sub-variation, as in the case of Spanish Blackjack and Double Attack Blackjack.

Spanish Blackjack is a blackjack game in which the four 10-cards are removed from the deck and are not in play, leaving a 48-card deck. Double Attack Blackjack is played with the same type of deck, and so it is said to be dealt from a "Spanish shoe." A game of Double Attack Blackjack is played with six or eight of these altered Spanish decks, though the point value of the cards is the same as in regular blackjack. The rules are basically the same as in standard blackjack — the goal of the game is to reach 21 without going over.
| The name "Double Attack Blackjack" is derived from the added optional bet that a player can place. This is the bet that the dealer will go bust with three cards. The bet — sometimes called the "Bust It" bet — is placed after the players have seen the dealer's up card. This Double Attack optional side bet — if won — pays out according to what the third card turns out to be.
For instance, if the dealer busts on the third card and the third card is a face card (remember — there are no 10s in the deck), then the player is paid off 3:1. If the third card is a 9, the payoff is 6:1. If the third card is an 8, the payout is 8:1. If the third card is a 7, the payout is 10:1. And if the third card is a 6 and with it the dealer goes bust, the payout to the player is 15 to 1. |

Double Attack Blackjack has other little bonuses that make this unusual blackjack game even more intriguing. If, for example, the dealer goes bust after getting two 8s in a row, the payout depends on whether the 8s are the same suit or just the same color. If the 8s are the same color, the player is paid 50 to 1. If the 8s are the same exact suit, the payout is a whopping 200:1. Two 8s of different colors don't pay at all.
Since the removal of the 10-cards changes the blackjack odds, the standard blackjack basic strategy card is not applicable to Double Attack Blackjack. It is possible, however, to find a blackjack basic strategy chart that is specifically tailored to the Double Attack Blackjack game.
