Online Casino Games - Craps

Online Craps Bets

There are a lot of different types of bets you can make in online craps. One look at the virtual craps table — a patchwork quilt of squares and rectangles and words and numbers, each signifying a different craps bet — will tell you that. The great variety of craps bets — each with its own odds and payouts — is part of what makes the game of craps so interesting and exciting.

The Pass Line Bet

The Pass Line bet is the most popular bet in online craps. You must make the Pass Line bet before the first roll of the game, known as the "Come Out Roll." If you have made a Pass Line bet, there are three things that can happen on the Come Out Roll:

(1) If you roll a 7 or 11, it is called a Natural, and you win.

(2) If you roll a 2, 3, or 12, it is called Craps, and you lose.

(3) If you roll a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, the number you rolled becomes the Point. Now you have to roll the dice again. If you roll the point again before you roll a 7, you win. If you roll a 7 before you roll the point, you lose.

As you can see, the number 7 is a key number in the Pass Line bet. A 7 on the Come Out roll is a winner, but a 7 on any subsequent roll is a loser. Such is the paradox of online craps.

Some More Craps Bets

There are plenty of other bets besides the Pass Line bet on the online craps table. These are some of them.

Don't Pass bet: This is almost the exact opposite of the Pass Line bet. On the Come Out roll, a 2 or 3 wins, a 7 or 11 loses, and a 12 ties. If a Point is established, you win if a 7 is rolled before the Point, and you lose if the Point is rolled before a 7.

Come bet: This is just like the Pass Line bet, except it is made after the Come Out roll. You can make a Come bet anytime you want to in the craps game. After you make the Come bet, the next roll of the craps dice acts, in effect, as a Come Out roll: a natural wins, craps loses, anything else becomes your Point.

Don't Come bet: This is just like the Don't Pass bet except that, like the Come bet, it is made after the Come Out roll.

Place bets: With a Place To Win bet, you get to pick your Point instead of letting the dice pick it for you. You win if your chosen Point number is rolled before a 7. You can also make a Place To Lose bet; you win this bet if a 7 is rolled before your chosen Point.

Buy and Lay bets: A Buy bet is like a Place to Win bet — you "buy" a number and bet that it will be rolled before a 7. A Lay bet is like a Place to Lose bet — you are betting that a 7 will be rolled before the number you picked. The difference between these bets and the Place bets is in how the payouts are figured. Buy and Lay bets pay out the true mathematical odds, minus a 5 percent commission. On some numbers, this works out to a higher payout compared to the corresponding Place bet; on others, it comes out lower.

Hard Way bets: Rolling a double is hard in online craps. If you bet on Hard Way 6, you win if your roll 6 "the hard way" (3 and 3) before you roll 7 and before your roll 6 "the easy way" (1 and 5, or 2 and 4). You can bet on Hard Way 4, Hard Way 6, Hard Way 8, or Hard Way 10.

Big 6 and Big 8: These are bets that you will roll a 6 or an 8, respectively, before rolling a 7.

The Odds Bets

The odds bets are not only the best bet in online craps, they are the best bet in any online casino game in the whole casino. This is because they pay out at the true mathematical odds, without any house advantage at all.

An odds bet can be made only if you have first made a Pass Line, Don't Pass, Come, or Don't Come bet, and a point has been established. Then you can make an odds bet by clicking on the virtual craps table right next to the chip signifying your original bet.

If you make an odds bet on a Pass Line or Come bet, you are betting additional chips that the point will be rolled before a 7 — this is called "Taking the Odds." If you make an odds bet on a Don't Pass or Don't Come bet, you are betting additional chips that a 7 will be rolled before the point — this is called "Laying the Odds."

Proposition Bets

It is possible to establish a point, and then to roll the dice over and over again without rolling the point or a 7. Some craps players find this exciting, as it allows the suspense of the craps game to build up on each roll of the dice. Others, however, are more impatient, and they want something to happen - win or lose - without all those inconsequential rolls. For these craps players, there are proposition bets - bets on what will happen on the next roll of the craps dice.

Any Craps: a bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3, or 12.

Crap 2, Crap 3, and Crap 12: a bet that the next roll will be the specific crap number you bet on.

Seven: a bet that the next roll will be a 7.

Eleven: a bet that the next roll will be an 11.

C&E (Craps & Eleven): a bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3, 11, or 12.

Field bet: a bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12. In other words, a bet on the low or high numbers, but not the middle numbers.
