Blackjack Strategy: Camouflage |
A funny thing about the game of blackjack: you are not allowed to be too good at it. If you are a great football player, you will get awards and trophies and public acclaim. If you are a great blackjack player, the most you will get is a kick in the rear as casino security throws you out the door. Unless you master the art of blackjack camouflage.
What many people don't realize is that casinos are private property. This means that the casino owners may admit whomever they want and exclude whomever they want. Granted, the law prohibits excluding people because of their race or religion, but there is no law that says the casinos may not exclude people because they are good blackjack players. That is why the best blackjack players use camouflage. Camouflage as a Blackjack StrategyWhat is blackjack camouflage? Camouflage means blending in with one's surroundings. Polar bears use it to blend in with the white ice and snow in the frozen Arctic. Highly skilled blackjack gamblers use it to blend in with the less-skilled recreational gamblers in the blackjack casino. The professional blackjack gambler wants to look like a recreational gambler, talk like a recreational gambler, and act like a recreational gambler. Of course he wants to win more than a recreational gambler, but even then he wants to look like an amateur who got lucky and not like a professional using his skills. The casinos don't mind lucky gamblers. They assume that whatever they won today, they will lose even more tomorrow. But they don't like skilled gamblers, because they keep winning and winning. And winning blackjack gamblers cost the casinos real money. How to Win at Blackjack: The Easy Way and the Hard WayThe easiest way to win at blackjack is by studying the blackjack basic strategy and following it very, very carefully. The hard albeit flamboyant way to win at blackjack is to count cards. It's not easy, it take a lot of practice, but it works if you can do it.Historically, most blackjack heroes are card counters. The Blackjack Hall of Fame is full of card-counting pros. The MIT Blackjack Team — those legendary card-counting college students who made blackjack history and almost "brought down the house" in the 1980s and '90s — were all brilliant card counters who perfected the art and brought it to a new level. But along with knowing how to count the cards there was one more technique the great blackjack players had to master - knowing how to camouflage their card counting.
They Perfected the Blackjack Strategy,
Unfortunately, although blackjack card counting was not technically illegal, it was frowned upon by casinos who didn't like being parted from their money by card counters. They were always on the lookout for card counters and would ban a player from the casino if he won too much using card counting as a blackjack strategy. That's where camouflage came in. The irony is that the skills that had taken team members hundreds of hours to learn and master had to be skillfully concealed in order to work. So not only did they have to learn how to count cards, they had to learn how to hide the fact that they were counting cards.
