Black Jack Arrives

Black Jack was the cutest dog you've ever seen. The funniest thing about his name, Black Jack, was, of course, that he wasn't even black. When Black Jack was born, his owner named him Black Jack after the dog's mother. The mother wasa beautiful, pure bred black spaniel, and he just assumed that Black Jack would also turn out to be a beautiful, black spaniel. After all, Fred, the owner, had bred the mother with another beautiful black spaniel and he was sure that he was going to get a wonderful litter that he could sell for a lot of money.

Black Jack Surprise

Little did Fred know however, the the mother dog was really in love with a sweet, ugly mutt. She had been sneaking out at night to see this white mutt, and had managed to get herself pregnant by this mutt, not by the beautiful black spaniel. And so, when Black Jack was born, it was hard to tell what he looked like at first. Fred named him Black Jack, and put a hefty price for his sale. Only a few months later, when Black Jack began to develop, did he realize that Black Jack didn't look like a spaniel purebred at all. And he certainly didn't look black! Black Jack was mostly a tan color with black spots. And while he was cute to the average person, he was downright ugly to Fred. Poor Black Jack!
